Let’s Stop Freaking Out About Certain Sixers Losses

The audacity of the Sixers to lose to the Hawks (again) while everyone was watching March Madness. I mean, here I am, paying attention to three other basketball games that the Sixers aren’t playing in, and they get carved up by Trae Young? Unreal!

So, the Sixers gave up 129 to a bad Hawks team and let some guy who looks like he’s barely hit puberty score 32. Bad but…it was a Saturday night game on the road against a lottery team after a week after two emotional wins. I am shocked the 76ers came out with no energy. Shocked!

Which brings me to my main (and only) point: let’s step freaking out over losses like this.

Losing at any point is annoying, ask Celtics fans. They can’t stop losing! But during an 82 game season, people get mentally and physically tired. After a huge game against Boston on Wednesday, Saturday night looked like both.

I think most people realized this could be a letdown game, but there have been plenty of others.

So, I am proposing a new rule for the Sixers regular season now that we will probably be good/in the playoffs for the foreseeable future: YOU GET TWO FREAKOUTS PER SEASON.

Two games out of 82, you get to lose your shit if they blow it. You get to throw the remote, wake up your kids with yelling at the TV, drink beers at 9:30pm on a Wednesday because your pissed off. You can’t believe Brett Brown coached them that poorly and you are fed up. You get to go all out TWICE.

For me, I’ve already used my two:

1) The October loss to the Pistons in overtime by a point when Blake Griffin scored 50. The Eagles also lost this week which didn’t help.

2) The recent loss to the Bulls on the road where they got pick and rolled to death by Zach Lavine of all people.

For some of you, maybe it was the last time the Sixers played the Hawks. Maybe, you still have one freakout left you’re clinging onto like PTO. If they come out tonight and lose to the Magic thus meaning back to back losses to lesser opponents, tonight would be a good night to use that last freakout.

Once the playoffs come, the rule is off the table and you can freak the hell out at any time. If Brooklyn comes into Wells Fargo Center and wins Game 1, I am going ballistic.

Another subsection of this rule is big game situations don’t apply. If they lose to Boston in OT on Christmas, have at it.

But, now that we’re going to be good for what seems like awhile, we need to limit our regular season freakouts. You’re only getting two. Don’t use it on a Saturday night road game against the Hawks no one was paying attention to.
