Back at Training Camp: The Eagles Return With a Recap On the Off-season

Players are reporting, scrimmages are being run, and we’re hanging on the words of a beat writer giving drive summaries. It’s the best time of year.

The landscape of the NFL looks very different this year with trades happening, free agents signing to different teams, and of course the draft. The Eagles are one of those teams that changed their look completely in the short off season.

The Birds replaced their two coordinators and lost some key players in free agency. They signed a couple small pieces and seemingly struck gold in the draft by taking, arguably the best talent, Jalen Carter.

Starting with the new coordinators, we have some fresh faces in new DC Sean Desai and OC Brian Johnson. Sean Desai coached at Philly’s own Temple University as a defensive and special teams coach. He spent most of his career with the Chicago Bears and most recently was the assistant head coach for the Seahawks. He’s also the first NFL coordinator of Indian decent.

Brian Johnson isn’t as fresh of a face as Desai as he was the QB coach last year. His relationship with Jalen Hurts should make for some more creative play calling and more trust in Hurts abilities.

The Eagles lost some players to free agency, most notably Miles Sanders and Javon Hargrave. As big of a loss Hargrave is, they replicated what they lost with another stellar draft by Howie Roseman. Roseman went out and drafted Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith to fortify the defense.

Miles Sanders was productive to say the least for the Eagles but fumbling issues and a subpar Super Bowl performance led the Birds to letting the Penn State running back walk in free agency. In his place they’ve added Philadelphia native D’Andre Swift and veteran Rashaad Penny.

Your Philadelphia Eagles will look different this year but in my eyes they look better. They’ve gotten younger while still having some veteran presence in the locker room. There’s still some unfinished business to be done. So, Fly Eagles Fly and let’s get to work!
