Happy 9th Anniversary for the DJax Punt Return

If you’re like me, all you’ve been thinking about this week is Sunday. The Eagles’ playoff future currently hangs in the balance as they prepare to play the Dallas Cowboys. But as Week 16 of the NFL season starts up, and the decade comes to a close, we would be remiss not to wish a very Happy 9th Birthday to the Desean Jackson return punt-to-touchdown against the New York Giants.

On this day in 2010, we were treated to Giants kicker Matt Dodge explicitly being told not to punt the ball back to Jackson by coach Tom Coughlin, and then him doing exactly that. Affectionately nicknamed The Miracle at the New Meadowlands, the return touchdown by Jackson with :14 seconds left in regulation secured the Eagles the NFC East Division title that year. Jackson took the ball down the field after initially fumbling it to drain the clock and score the final points, cementing himself in one of the best Eagles memories of the decade (February 4th 2018 notwithstanding).

Even though Jackson will be watching from the sidelines on Sunday, the Eagles should use that energy to carry them into the game. Let’s make one more exciting memory for the decade.
