Flyers Trade Big-Ten Player Of The Year To Edmonton For A Draft Pick

The Flyers announced on Wednesday that they traded former 6th round pick in 2015, Cooper Marody, to the Edmonton Oilers for a 2019 3rd round pick.

Marody, who was all Big Ten and Big Ten Player of the Year this season, was in his 3rd season at Michigan. He had 14 goals and 32 assists on the year.

The trade was for Marody’s right as he has yet to sign his entry-level-contract.

But, there is an underlining to this trade and it has to do with the Flyers trade with Detroit for Petr Mrazek.

When the Flyers acquired Mrazek, there was a conditional pick going back to Detroit in 2019 if the Flyers resigned Mrazek after the season.

Well, with the acquiring of another 2019 3rd round pick, does this mean Mrazek is almost assured himself back with the Flyers next season?

I don’t know if that was the reason for the deal, but it might aide in the Flyers resigning Mrazek to a new contract this offseason.
