On The Brink of Success?

Alright I’m not trying to get ahead of myself here but I’m going to get ahead of myself. The Philadelphia Flyers are a WAGON right now. Last night the Flyers dominated against the Minnesota Wild and went on to win 6-2 thanks to two goals from rookie Bobby Brink.

Basically, from start to finish of this game minus like two minutes in the third period the Flyers were taking it to the Wild. I mean they were all over them. They outshot them 12-4 in the first period and 13-9 in the second period. The Wild as expected pushed back in the third and outshot the Flyers 15-10. But the Flyers were the ones with three third period goals.

With last nights win the Flyers have improved to 4-2-1 in their first seven games of the season. That’s good for second place in the Metro division right behind the New York Rangers who are 5-2-0. Now sure it’s a small sample size and this team is supposed to be in a rebuild but what if last year was the worst of the worst? John Tortorella has already said he was coaching last season like it was year one of the rebuild which would put us in year two. So in a rebuild teams are supposed to show they are improving over time and that is what’s happening here in Philadelphia.

Sean Couturier and Cam Atkinson have been huge additions for this team now that they are fully healthy. Travis Konecny can’t stop scoring goals and very well might put up 40 this year. Joel Farabee hasn’t fully got going yet but has still been putting up solid numbers. Bobby Brink is showing the potential we all thought he had and is now starting to show up on the scoresheet. Travis Sanheim has silenced all of his doubters and is one of the best defenseman in the NHL at the moment. Carter Hart is proving that he is the franchise goaltender the Flyers have needed, and to top things off they may be one of the best coached teams in the league. John Tortorella has preached changing the culture here in Philadelphia and we are starting to see the results of that. This team has been fun to watch and they seem to be having fun.

After last night’s game ESPN’s Leah Hextall asked Travis Sanheim “What does rebuild actually mean to the players?” Sanheim responded with “Not a thing.”

It’s clear that the players don’t care what the public thinks about the team and if they are supposed to be rebuilding. They are playing for each other and they are playing their asses off. Torts also preached being a tough team to play against and so far in these seven games the Flyers have been competitive in just about all of them.

Sure, this could all come crashing and they go on one of those classic ten game losing streaks. But, it doesn’t feel like that’s going to happen this year. Let’s enjoy this team for what they are and how they are playing right now. The future has never been brighter for the Philadelphia Flyers and if they can have success earlier then we expected I don’t see the problem. I have put my faith in Danny Briere and Keith Jones and so far it’s going very well.

We’ve got two first round picks for next years draft and oh by the way the second best player out of last years draft fell to us at 7th overall in Matvei Michkov who is killing it in the KHL. He could also be here sooner then the expected three year time frame

Oh and let’s not forget who else will be joining this team sooner then later…

As our new President said “The Philadelphia Flyers aren’t going away, we’re coming back.”
