Flyers After Dark: Heartbreak Continues
Late last night/earlier this morning the Philadelphia Flyers took on the defending Stanley Cup Champion Vegas Golden Knights.
While one Philadelphia team was ripping our hearts out during a devastating game 7 loss, another Philly team was giving us signs of hope.
Vegas would strike first and take a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game. But it wouldn’t take the Flyers long to respond. Noah Cates would get his first of the year to tie the game at one.
Then just four minutes later Cam Atkinson would get a friendly bounce that would end up in the back of the net to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.
The second period you knew Vegas was going to push back and they did just that. They had two powerplay opportunities in the period but the Flyers were able to kill both of them off. Carter Hart made some huge saves to keep the Flyers in front as we headed to the third period.
The third period would once again see the Vegas Golden Knights applying the pressure. The Flyers were being outshot 12-3 in the third period at one point and were really playing on their heels. What happens when you play like that for too long? The great teams tend to take advantage and the Vegas Golden Knights did Just that. Paul Cotter scored a highlight reel goal to tie the game at two.
But as fate would have it all the hope the Flyers gave us by having a lead in the third period would be ripped away from us.
The game winning goal with just 31 seconds left and the Flyers lose in heartbreaking fashion. The theme of the night in Philadelphia, I tell ya man it’s tough being a Philly sports fan.
