The Ugly, The Ugly, and The Ugly in the Eagles First Win
The first Eagles Sunday is in the books and while they got the win and was ugly as hell doing it. The game started all Birds with a field goal to go up 3 early, a pick six by Darius Slay, and a forced fumble by big man, Jordan Davis. That set up a Jalen Hurts touchdown to the new dad in town, Smitty. They were cruising early.
An outstanding first quarter was followed up with a second quarter where they looked like Rue on one of her benders in Euphoria. Nothing was really clicking on offense, Hurts even fumbled late. It felt like Mac Jones was able to get anything he wanted in the middle of the field. The rain did play a factor for both teams causing a very sloppy game.
Since there’s two new coordinators on the sideline, I imagine they’re still trying to get comfortable but we don’t have much time for that. We’re trying to follow up a Super Bowl appearance, time to get comfortable and lock in. Some improvements I’d like to see: scheme something for Dallas Goedert, he’s a phenomenal tight end and can help move the ball when the run and deep ball aren’t there. They need to get some help for the tight end, Mike Gesicki and Hunter Henry combined for over 90 yards receiving and a touchdown.
They turned it around towards the end thanks to a handful of Jake Elliot field goals and the defense getting key stops they squeaked out a win. It was also so refreshing to see Jalen Carter dominate in his first game to the tune of 7 pressures and his first career sack.
On a quick turnaround the Eagles have the Vikings on Thursday Night Football. We all know Kirk Cousins and how allergic to prime time he is but Justin Jefferson is still a threat. My official prediction, Eagles 21-7, the offense gets on track in the home opener. Justin Jefferson is gonna get his but without a substantial running attack the Vikings will fall short.
