Flyers Re-Sign Defenseman Cam York

Flyers general manager Danny Briere has been busy over the last couple of weeks. With the NHL Draft and free agency Briere has been making moves to help fill out the Flyers roster as well as set it up for future success.

Today he took another step as they came to terms with defenseman Cam York on a two year deal with an AAV of $1.6 Million.

York very well could find himself on the Flyers top defensive pair this season, which means he will be logging a lot of minutes. This deal is a bridge deal for him as the Flyers try to see exactly where and if he will be fitting into their long term plans.

Last season York did not make the roster out of training camp and didn’t see NHL action until December 9th. York played in 54 games and tallied 2 goals and 18 assist. He showed flashes of how great he can be and the Flyers will be looking for him to develop his game even more.

This two year deal will still give the Flyers one year of him being a restricted free agent and one year of him being an RFA with arbitration eligibility.

With the cap expected to jump up in a couple years York’s next contract could look a lot larger depending on his play. I think this deal is perfect for where he is and where the Flyers are as an organization. See what he can do for you as he steps into a bigger role and determine if he is going to be a big part of the Flyers future.

Fingers crossed York can take a big step forward this season and be a valuable piece to the Flyers blue line.
