Flyers Draft Profile: Dalibor Dvorsky
The NHL Draft is just a few short weeks away and it is time to start taking a look at some of the possible players the Philadelphia Flyers could select with the 7th overall pick. The Flyers failed to tank correctly in a year when the top 3 prospects could accelerate a rebuild so now they sit just inside the top 10. It is extremely important for the Flyers to get this selection right and for this pick to be a huge part of the Flyers future.
With Daniel Briere now leading the charge as GM he has already gotten to work and acquired a 2nd first round pick in this years draft. So as of now yes, the Flyers are slotted in the 7th overall spot but will they be picking there come draft night? That remains to be seen so in this draft profile series we are going to take a look at prospects that could be there at 7 or possibly even guys they could move up to draft.
First up in our draft profile series is forward Dalibor Dvorsky out of Slovakia.
The 17 year old stands at 6’1 and weighs 201lbs he has spent the last few years playing in the AIK over in Sweden. He mainly plays center but can also slide to the wing if need be. With his size you can bet teams are going to be looking at him to be a future 1st/2nd line guy down the middle.
While his numbers with AIK are not staggering we really saw his true potential on display at the U-18 World Championships for team Slovakia. In that tournament he recorded 8 goals and added 5 assist for a total of 13 points.
As of now most mock drafts have Dvorsky going in the 6-12 range depending on how the draft plays out. More likely than not he will be sitting there when the Flyers are on the clock at 7 if they decide to stay there. He could also be there if they decide to move back from the 7th overall pick.
Dvorsky could be the best available option for the Flyers at 7 with the Flyers lacking depth at the Center position adding a big guy like Dvorsky to go along with Cutter Gauthier the first round pick from last year could give the Flyers a solid 1-2 punch up the middle for the future. Granted one if not both of these guys could easily move to the wing but nonetheless drafting a center especially one with this kind of size would be a great move.
Imagine having him learn from Sean Couturier and how beneficial for the Flyers future that would be. Dvorsky is more of a playmaker/ two way center and why not have him learn from a former Selke Trophy winner in Coots. Depending on the build up of the Flyers roster for the upcoming season there would be a chance he could make the team out of camp. Either way if he is drafted by the Flyers I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the main roster within the next two years, three at the most.
Selecting Dvorsky at 7 wouldn’t be a wow pick but it would be one that gives the Flyers some much needed depth at the Center position.
Stayed tuned for more of our draft profiles over the next few days/weeks leading up to the draft and be sure to follow along with our Flyers coverage all off-season long.
