The 30-year-old OF was a free agent after not re-signing with the Cincinnati Reds.
Last season, Castellanos finished with 34 home-runs & 100 RBIs with a .309 batting average in 531 plate appearances.
In his nine year MLB career, Castellanos has averaged 19 home-runs & 66 RBIs with a .278 batting average per season. Hitting 18+ home-runs & adding 73+ RBIs in five of his nine seasons in the MLB.
Initial reports of Castellanos’s interest in the Philadelphia Phillies broke on Thursday afternoon. Coming from MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

On Tuesday, reigning MVP Bryce Harper said he hoped the Phillies weren’t done adding after signing Kyle Schwarber. A response that Harper’s GM, Dave Dombrowski, responded to by signing Nick Castellanos.
Bryce Harper was a big factor in Phillies recruitment and signing of Castellanos. Phillies president Dave Dombrowski had Castellanos in Detroit and has now remade their lineup.

As for Nick Castellanos… the familiarity with Dave Dombrowski probably played a key role as well. As it was Dombrowski who drafted Castellanos in Detroit in 2010.
In 8 games at Citizens Bank Park, Castellanos has 2 home-runs & 2 RBIs with a .321 batting average.
The Phillies will open up their 2022-2023 season at Citizens Bank Park on April 8th vs the Oakland Athletics.
MLB Opening Day is just 20 days away.
