Flyers Aim For Third Win In A Row

The Flyers are back from the All Star break and begin the road to the end of the season with a game against the Detroit Red Wings. It is the third and final game of the Flyers short three game homestand in which they are 2-0 after picking up wins against the LA Kings and Winnipeg Jets.

Could the Flyers be on their way to a third straight win?!? It would be their first three game winning streak since December right before they would go on to lose 13 straight games. Tonight’s game won’t be an easy task as one of the somewhat surprising teams from this season so far the Detroit Red Wings will look to start their 2nd half of the season on the right foot.

Detroit is a team in rebuild mode and has some great young talent but being in the tough Eastern Conference they have a long road ahead if they want to compete for a playoff spot. Dylan Larkin leads the way for the Wings on offense as well as rookie Lucas Raymond who is one of the favorites for the Calder Trophy. On defense they have another rookie who is in the running for the Calder Trophy in Moritz Seider. Some have even compared him to a young Chris Pronger. The Flyers will have their hands full trying to shut down those three along with the rest of the Red Wings.

For the Flyers they will be looking to build off of their last two wins in which they scored 3 or more goals in both games. Claude Giroux is coming off an All Star MVP performance and will look to lead the Flyers to a better 2nd half of the season. Trade rumors around Giroux will be heating up as we get closer to the deadline and you never know when he could be playing  his last game in Orange and Black. With Giroux coming off his performance if Cam Atkinson, Travis Konecny, and JVR can continue building off of their last few games the Flyers offense could get back to what we were seeing during the first week of the season.

Carter Hart gets the start in net for the Flyers he has a career record of 4-0 vs the Red Wings including his first career win coming against them. Hart has played extremely well this season given how bad overall the team has been. One of the things us as fans need to see, is his strong play continuing to give us the reassurance that he is the future of the Flyers between the pipes.
