The Flyers Find Themselves Lost In The Wilderness . . . AGAIN

Before we get started with this article I think we need to watch this video:

That right there is a security dog on the Flyers ice who needed to go while standing in the middle of the Flyer logo. And when a dog’s gotta go, the dog’s gotta go regardless of when and where. But little did that doggy know that it was pooping on the Flyers logo on the same day the team fired head coach Alain Vigneault and assistant coach Michel Therrien following an 8 game losing streak.

Two seasons removed from being in Game 7 of the semi-finals and one season removed from an up-and-down year that was overshadowed by COVID outbreaks, the Flyers entered the 2021-2022 campaign looking to get back on track. Things seem to have started well, but suddenly the team lost 8 straight games and began to lose faith in their coaching staff. The streak has now reached 9 in row with a 7-5 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Just as they been at several points over the last decade, and especially so since the passing of team founder Ed Snider, the Flyers are lost in the wilderness again. No one has any idea what direction this team is going and whether these players should be apart of the present and future. All that’s for sure is that the quest for a long overdue Stanley Cup is going to take even longer, and the title drought will most likely reach the half-century mark in 2025.

The Comcast Company seems to be more focused on pushing the Flyers brand and making money than trying to win. The pop culture phenomenon that is Gritty has been great for the franchise and one of the best things to ever happen to the organization, but it says something where the mascot the reason why the franchise is relevant and not the on-ice product. The highlight of the Flyers 2021 campaign shouldn’t be a Gritty cameo on Family Guy.

So here we go again. The Flyers are back to Square One after firing their coach and haven’t been exactly inspired to rebound so far. Hopefully this will turn out to be the worst part of their season and can turn things around later on. After all, a few seasons ago they made the playoffs in a year when they lost 10 games in a row. This was also a year after they won 10 games in a row and missed the playoffs. But as of right now the Fly Guys will most likely finish this season with everyone shrugging their shoulders, uncertain of what’s next.
