From Eagles Fans Everywhere, Thank You Carson

The inevitable news that all Eagles fans felt coming finally came to fruition this past Thursday afternoon with Carson Wentz officially being traded to the Indianapolis Colts. And with this news, the final paragraph in a short, but special chapter of Eagles football has been closed.

The 2016-2020 era started off without much hope after the colossal downfall of the Chip Kelly era. After a bleak era of Philadelphia sports without much to look forward to as fans, Carson brought an energy to the Eagles we hadn’t seen in a long time. There’s something special about a football season that’s different from every major sport. As fans we wait all week for Sunday, something “normal” people would call crazy, but we wouldn’t want to live any other way.

Those few hours on a Sunday afternoon are a special time for us and set up our upcoming week. There were a lot of happy Mondays during that 2017 season and we have Carson to thank for that. Sure, Nick Foles is the folk hero, and the guy most people will bring up when telling stories about that season. And the love that we show for Nick knows no bounds, but as this chapter ends lets not forget about Carson. The special moments from that playoff run don’t happen without him putting on one of the most impressive regular seasons we’ve seen from an Eagles quarterback. The 4th and goal stop against Atlanta, Patrick Robinson’s pick six against Minnesota, the Philly Special, none of that happens without Carson.

So from Eagles fans everywhere, thank you Carson. Sure the 2020 season was a miserable end to our relationship, it was about as ugly a breakup as it could have been. Don’t remember Carson from this tumultuous season.

Remember the Carson that brought every Eagles fan unbelievable amounts of joy and the most special season in franchise history. Remember the Carson that eluded a sure sack against Washington before hitting Nelson Agholor deep for the first touchdown of that special season. Remember the Carson that threw a touchdown on a torn ACL to secure home field advantage that led to this city’s first Super Bowl. Remember the Carson that put an absolute shit show of an offense on his back and beat Dallas to bring home the division in 2019. Remember the special times from this era of Eagles football. The times you’ll tell your kids and grandkids about when giving them a lesson on the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that’s broken your heart at every turn, except for one special season when a kid from North Dakota came and gave this city hope.

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
Thank you Carson,
Go Birds
