Josh McDaniels Interviewing For Eagles Head Coach Job
The Philadelphia Eagles seem to be going for quantity this time in their head coaching search. After already interviewing at least 10-candidates for their vacant head coaching job, Patriot’s offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the latest to get an interview.
McDaniels, whose success has come with Tom Brady as his quarterback, would bring over 15-years experience as an offensive coordinator to Philadelphia. McDaniels would also bring head coaching experience, which would give him a leg up on the other Eagles candidates.
With the reports of the Eagles wanting a coach that could revive Carson Wentz, Josh McDaniels fits that mold. McDaniels offense fits Wentz’s style of play.
According to the Athletics Bo Wulf, McDaniels has already begun recruiting the coaching staff he would hope to bring with him to Philadelphia if hired.
While the Eagles chose to go from Andy Reid’s coaching tree the last time they hired a head coach, this time around the Eagles could go with someone from Bill Belichick’s tree. McDaniels is the third candidate they have interviewed from the Belichick coaching tree for their vacant head coach opening.
The only knock on Josh McDaniels comes from his poor success without Tom Brady.
In his four seasons without Tom Brady, Josh McDaniels offenses have ranked in the bottom half of the NFL. But, before you read too much into that, during those four seasons, McDaniels QBs were Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, & Cam Newton.
The Eagles hiring Josh McDaniels would be kind of controversial with Philadelphia fans disdain for the Patriots. But, the Eagles hiring McDaniels could lead to a revival of Carson Wentz in McDaniels systems. Something the Eagles are looking for & hopes can happen with their next head coach.
