Report: Carson Wentz Playing Through Injury Sustained In Training Camp

After Carson Wentz led the Philadelphia Eagles to the playoffs with a 4-0 December last season, his stock was at an all-time high. But, after another injury, whether you see it dirty or not, put a halt to that momentum.

This season, that momentum did not return for Carson Wentz. Entering this week’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, Wentz has 3TDs 6INTs & a 63.9 passer rating on the season.

But, is Carson Wentz’s struggles all to blame on his poor decision making & play? Could yet another injury be effecting Wentz’s ability to throw the ball?

According to a source familiar with the situation, Carson Wentz is playing with a nagging groin injury that happened during training camp. An injury that is believed to be a groin pull suffered towards the end of August.

When the Eagles practiced at Lincoln Financial Field on August 30th, Carson Wentz was a late scratch due to a lower body injury. The Eagles later updated the situation, stating it was a soft-tissue injury in Wentz’s lower body that they were being cautious with.

While Carson Wentz’s decision making has been on rookie quarterback level, this groin issue could be a reason for some of his struggles. It could be pertaining to his over-throws and poor mechanics.

Carson Wentz is throwing the ball on target at a 45.7% accuracy according to Pro Football Reference. Which is in the bottom 25% of the league. This is where Carson’s nagging groin injury could be effecting his play.

When Carson Wentz tries to throw, it seems he is having trouble planting & putting his weight on his front foot to finish the throw. A signal that Wentz is dealing with an issue in his lower-body. While some will point to mechanics, it has become very clear Wentz is trying to over compensate his throws because he can’t transfer his weight.

The one major issue with Carson Wentz over his career has been injuries. Failing to stay healthy, whether it be his doing or not, Wentz has missed a game in every season except his rookie campaign. Even then, Wentz miss the whole preseason due to an injury.

While Carson Wentz is trying his best to right the ship & play through injury once again, his struggles have costed the Eagles heavily so far this season.
