Tin Foil Hat Time: The Phillies Lost to the Marlins on PURPOSE
Crazy? You’re crazy for thinking they wouldn’t. I know in the cookie cutter world we live in today where everything has to be cut and dry, everyone assumes Wins directly correlate to good things and Losses directly correlates to bad things. But, that’s because you haven’t opened your third eye to the game of virtual 3-D chess Joe Girardi is playing right now. This what we like to call a plan coming together. Doesn’t make sense? It all will soon so just sit back and fasten your tin foil hats for the impending World Series title run
Did you honestly think we put our A squad out there for this series? How many of you even knew who will Rosso was before he took the bump on Sunday? Zack Wheeler just so happened to miss time due to the “fingernail injury”? Even I’ll admit that wasn’t the best excuse Girardi could’ve come up with but I won’t question a mad genius at work and it did get the scolding hot Wheeler out of a game. We didn’t want to win that 7 game series. And here’s why..
Look at that playoff seeding. I’m just salivating at the thought of it. If the Phils won that series against the Marlins we would be looking at the 5th seed and a first round date with Padres. If you haven’t been watching baseball this year let me remind you that the Padres have been mercilessly assaulting baseballs to the point where I’m starting to feel bad for the baseballs. Also they traded for an ace pitcher at the deadline to accompany their other ace pitcher. They’re the hottest team in baseball and NOT a team you want to see in the first round.
Now the Phils would end up with the 7 seed where their most likely opponent would be the Braves since they have an easy schedule to finish out the year. May I remind you that the Phillies took two out of three from the Braves just a few weeks ago. And historically speaking, if there is one thing the Braves are known for, it is being a great regular season team and ultimately falling short in the playoffs (including 0-1 against the Phils all time in playoff series). I would much rather see the Braves than the Padres in the First Round. The Cubs for that matter too. And you know what? Joe Girard feels the same way.
Now I know we would still have a tough second round matchup, but we can cross that bridge when we get there. Right now our focus is survive and advance. Getting hot after a big series win over the Braves is extremely possible. This bullpen is, for a lack of a better term, an un-redeemable dumpster fire. And there is no track record for a team with a bad bullpen to do anything good, right? Like take the team that had the last bullpen last year for example. That team would be the… Nationals? You may have heard of them they won some silly little title called the WOLRD SERIES. That’s right. The big one is still absolutely on the table and this series loss to the Marlins is just another pawn being moved. But no one will remember the embarrassment of that when were drinking champagne at the parade in November. Book it now.
