Derrick Gunn’s Best Moments Covering the Eagles

By now, you’ve heard the grim rumors are true. NBC has implemented massive layoffs regionally and Philly was hit incredibly hard. Some of the biggest names we’ve been following for years have been axed after the cuts including the elimination of sideline reporters, Gregg Murphy and maybe most notable, Derrick Gunn.
The layoffs are a harsh reality we have to face as sports fans due to the coronavirus impact coupled with the changing ways in which we consume media. While it’s a disappointing change of landscape, it would be wrong to dwell on the negative. It’s nice to focus on the many positives Derrick Gunn has provided over 23 years of work with Comcast Sportsnet and NBC Sports Philly.
There are very few non-Eagles personnel more universally associated with the team than D Gunn. He clearly was just more than a reporter, but a respected media member by the players themselves. He and Brandon Graham have the friendship that the media want Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid to have. Eagles coverage, especially post-game, just won’t be the same without Gunner.
Thank you, D Gunn. Here are some of his best moments:
1) Andy Reid Kisses Derrick Gunn
This was after Andy’s tenure as Eagles head coach, but the bond still remained. In Derrick Gunn’s Twitter video confirming his departure, the first name he mentioned from the Eagles that he enjoyed covering was Andy Reid.

2) How Have I Never Seen This Commercial Before?
Reuben Frank steals the show in this commercial. But, D Gunn has been a staple with this Eagles Post Game cast for two decades. I’m not sure where the program goes from here, but people didnt tune in for the analysis, they enjoyed the player reactions with Gunn while they were fresh out of the locker room after a game. They trusted him and he always got the raw, real interviews.

3) The Relationship Between Brandon Graham and Derrick Gunn
I think you would be hard pressed to find a better, more entertaining relationship between a player and a media member anywhere than Graham and Gunn. BG is coming to the end of his career. DG’s time with NBCS has come to and end. A podcast or a TV show should be in the works. I remember Graham coming off the field at the end of the Saints playoff loss and hugging each media member. His hug with Gunn hit everyone.
