BREAKING: Phillies vs Yankees Game CANCELLED Due To Covid Outbreak
The 2020 MLB season started on Thursday night in Washington. World Series Champions, Washington Nationals, opened the season against the New York Yankees.
However, the Nationals were without star outfielder, Juan Soto, who was a late scratch due to a positive Covid test. Fast-forward to Monday, with every team through their first series, the MLB has cancelled its first set of games.
After the Phillies & Marlins series, 8 players & 2 staff of the Miami Marlins tested positive for Covid-19.
Marlins shortstop, Miguel Rojas, said the team knew a couple players were positive pre-game. This led to an all 30-player meeting before the game. Rojas explained that “not playing was never our mentality”. Now, because of that mentality, 5 more players & 2 staffers are now positive.
As a result of these positive tests, Miami stayed an extra night in Philadelphia. But, after consulting with the MLB, the Marlins, who were supposed to leave this morning, are now quarantined in Philadelphia.
With the Marlins being quarantined, the MLB cancelled the Marlins home-opener tonight in Miami. But, what about the Phillies? The team the Marlins just played.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the MLB has postponed the Phillies vs Yankees game tonight as well.
The situation with the Marlins is still developing. But, the MLB is acting fast.
According to multiple sources, the MLB is holding an emergency meeting with the owners about what the next step should be. A decision is expected in the next 24hours before tomorrow nights games to where the season goes.
With MLB eliminating fans only, a situation like this was foreseeable. However, it doesn’t seem the MLB had a plan of action.
No quarantine, players & staff still having outside interactions, and still traveling. All three things the NBA & NHL knew where going to be issues. Which resulted in “bubbles” for their resumption.
The MLB didn’t change to the times. Left too many uncontrollable factors in the game. Now, after just 3-games, the MLB is back to square-one. Continuing to lose popularity & cause irreparable damage to the league & sport of baseball.
