Eagles Shock The World, Take QB Jalen Hurts With 53rd Pick
In what is another initial shocking move, the Philadelphia Eagles selected QB Jalen Hurts with the 53rd overall pick.
Shock. Confusion. Unknown. Whatever word you want to describe it, the Eagles just put it in your head.
With Carson Wentz running the show for the next 10-15 years, yes it is very confusing. But, two things come to mind.
Eagles took Jalen Reagor to match the style of what the Chiefs have in Tyreek Hill. Could selecting Jalen Hurts be to add some Saints Taysom Hill style plays to the offense?
Hurts did run for 3300 yards & 43 TDs in his college career.
But, if the last 3 seasons of Eagles football have shown you anything, they are as only good as their backup QB.
Nick Foles lead them to a Super Bowl in 2017 after Wentz’s ACL tear. Foles finished the season in 2018 due to Wentz’s back injury. Josh McCown was the QB for 3-quarters in last years wild card.
Its not a knack on Carson Wentz. But, when your quarterback is willing to give his body up on any given play, injuries happen. Hurts being a wildcat style QB in the offense with Wentz brings a whole another aspect to the offense. But, also gives you a valuable backup that you can trust to win you games.
