Eagles Must Get Creative In A Possible Deal For Yannick Ngakoue

After adding 3x pro-bowler Darius Slay last night, Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman doesn’t look like he is done reshaping the Eagles defense just yet.

With the addition of Slay, the Eagles solved their biggest hole on the roster from last season. Some could make a case from the last decade as well. With the clear offseason focus on the defense, Howie is looking to capitalize even more.

According to Jason La Canfora, the Eagles are very interested in trading for former pro-bowl DE Yannick Ngakoue.

The Eagles have already signed DT Javon Hargrave to pair alongside Fletcher Cox. Now, the Eagles are looking to add more to an already impressive pass-rush.

Adding Yannick Ngakoue to Derek Barnett & Brandon Graham would give the Eagles a very solid rotation of pass rushers. And, if you know Jim Schwartz, he LOVES his pass rushers.

The rumored price tag for Ngakoue is a 1st round pick.

With the Eagles already dishing out two picks in 2020 (3rd & 5th to DET for Slay), Howie Roseman may be a little hesitant to give up a 1st round pick. Which means Howie may have to get creative to possibly pull off a trade.

However, the biggest part of this trade is Ngakoue’s salary.

After being franchised tagged by the Jaguars, Ngakoue is expected to make $19.3M this season. A number that currently does not fit under the Eagles salary cap.

In any deal, Howie must get creative by getting the Jaguars to take salary back or move salary out before discussing the package going back.

If Jacksonville is willing to take on say Alshon Jeffery & his $15.4M salary, then Howie should have no problem giving up a 1st round pick. Maybe inconsistently used Rasul Douglas & a 2nd?

Both Jeffery & Douglas are two names to keep an eye on as the Eagles look to transform their roster at those positions.

The interest is there. However, Ngakoue’s $19.3M price tag will force the Eagles to get creative to pull this trade off.
