The Eagles are NOT Exercising Their 2020 Contract Option for Malcolm Jenkins
And 2020 just keeps laying a beating on us every chance it gets
If it wasn’t for one ‘Weapon X’ sized exception, Malcolm Jenkins would probably go down as the greatest safety to ever wear the midnight green. It might go under the radar sometimes, but that might just be due to the fact that he was so unbelievably consistent on and off the field that it would be considered strange if he wasn’t doing amazing things for the Eagles or for the community.
He was signed as a free agent six years ago after already cementing himself as a solid NFL veteran. We expected him to be a good football player, we didn’t expect him to become the de facto leader of the locker room and the heart and soul of behind the city’s first ever super bowl title. The work he’s done with his outreach from everything to criminal justice reform to the NFLPA speaks to how great of a man we scored when we signed him. On top of that, he was phenomenal on the field. Literally
Malcolm Jenkins in six seasons played with the Eagles:
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) March 17, 2020
▪️96 games played, 96 games started, 0 games missed
▪️6,404-of-6,500 snaps played (just 96 missed!)
▪️ 58 pass breakups, 11 INT, 4 pick-sixes
▪️515 tackles, 32 TFL, 12 FF
One of the best free agent pick-ups in a long time.
Never missed a game. Didn’t even miss 100 snaps in 6 full years! He never took a day off even when he deserved one the most. Long after he solidified his position as a captain on the team with rings and pro bowls, he still showed up and made an effort to be the hardest working man on the field. Not because he always had to (though sometimes when the entire secondary was in the big blue tent, he did) but because that’s how an athlete like himself becomes great in the first place. Just a tremendous work ethic.
So here’s to you Malcolm Jenkins, great player and even greater man.
