Carter Hart Steals Win #9 In A Row For The Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers extended their win streak to 9-games Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Defeating the Buffalo Sabres 3-1.
The 1st period was sluggish for both the Flyers & Sabres. Having only combined for 4 shots in the first 10 minutes, the Sabres took it too the Flyers in the 2nd half of the period.
Carter Hart was spectacular in keeping the game scoreless. Hart stopped all 13 Sabres shots in the 1st. Including none bigger than a Sam Reinhart break-away on the penalty-kill.
Buffalo would continue the pressure as the 2nd period started. Holding the Flyers to only 4 shots in a span of 17:12, stretching from the 7:30 mark in the 1st to the 10:18 mark of the 2nd. But, then the Flyers 1st line would go to work.
On the ensuing shift, Giroux-Couturier-Voracek would give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. A great individual effort by Jake Voracek would set-up Giroux wide open in-front for the goal.
It would be all Buffalo after the goal. Outshooting the Flyers 8-1 and tying the game at 1.
Buffalo would continue their pressure to start the 3rd. But, after two penalties killed, the Flyers would take over.
Claude Giroux would get his second of the game. Just like his first, Jake Voracek would make another unbelievable saucer pass to the high slot to Giroux for the goal. 2-1 Flyers.
Joel Farabee would put the game away with 5:11 left. On a great individual effort, Farabee pressured Sabres goalie Carter Hutton into a bad pass that hit Farabee’s stick & drop right in the crease for the slam dunk by Joel. 3-1 Flyers.
Carter Hart stopped 38 of the 39 shots he faced to earn his 20th win on home ice this season.
Loose Pucks…
So this is whats its like to have great goaltending. Carter Hart was the difference maker tonight. Making the timely saves and even some “Hartacular” saves as well. Hart now 24-12-3 on the season.
Flyers had two scares on defense tonight. Phil Myers blocked an Eichel blast from the point and went up the tunnel for a short time. But, would return & finish the game. Justin Braun survived a late dangerous hit with 36 seconds left in the game.
Once again Flyers are tied with Washington Capitals for 1st in the Metro. One good thing about the Capitals win today was it was over the Penguins. Now, the Flyers have a 5-point advantage on the 3rd place Penguins.
Win #9 in a row didn’t come easy for the Flyers. It was a battle and the first time on the win streak the Flyers were tested. Needing to win a period to win a game and that is just what the Flyers did.
Jake Voracek is rolling. Extending his point streak to 5-games with assists on both Giroux goals. During his point streak, Jake has 10 assists in his last 5-games.
Think it gets easier? Guess again. Flyers will now face the two best in the Atlantic in back-to-back games. First, Boston on Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Center. Then, Tampa in Tampa on Thursday. BUCKLE UP, its going to be a fun ride.
