New Mix, Same Old Flavor, Flyers Roll 4-2 Over Sharks

The Philadelphia Flyers ended an 4-game losing streak to the San Jose Sharks Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. With new additions, Derek Grant & Nate Thompson, the Flyers didn’t miss a beat and rolled to a 4-2 win over the Sharks.

With Joel Farabee being returned to the Phantoms, Nicolas Aube-Kubel took Farabee’s spot on the Flyers 2nd PP unit. Just 1:32 into the game, Aube-Kubel would make the most of it that opportunity. After Sean Couturier drew a penalty just 26 seconds into the game, Aube-Kubel would put home a beautiful set-up by James van Riemsdyk.

After San Jose tied it in the first, the Flyers newly put together 2nd line, Laughton-Hayes-Konecny, would completely dominate the 2nd period and give the Flyers the lead.

Kevin Hayes would get his first on the night to give the Flyers the lead again. On a beautiful passing display by the whole line, Laughton would find Hayes in the high slot for the goal.

After San Jose players collided at the point, Konecny and Hayes would go up ice on a 2v1. Hayes would find Konecny who went five-hole for the goal.

Early in the 3rd period, Kevin Hayes would get his second on the night. After almost scalping his line-mate, Travis Konecny, with a wide shot, Konecny would find the puck and feed Hayes for the goal. 4-1 Flyers

San Jose would get one back with just before the mid-way point of the 3rd period. But, it wouldn’t be enough. Flyers would go on to win 4-2.

Carter Hart stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced to earn his 17 win on home ice & his 20th on the season.

Loose Pucks…

With new addition, Nate Thompson, the Flyers 4th line didn’t skip a beat. In his debut, Thompson played 12:39, added one shot & one block, and was 40% in the face-off dot.

The Flyers other new addition, Derek Grant, had similar success. Travel across the country and playing a game in less than 24-hours, Grant still played 12:38, added one block, and was 60% in the face-off dot.

San Jose was dominating the shot column throughout the first half of the game. Firing 25 shots at Carter Hart in the first 32-minutes of the game. The Flyers would hold them to only 3 shots over the final 28 minutes of play.

When Kevin Hayes scores, the Flyers always win. With his 19th & 20th of the season, the Flyers improve to 17-0-1 when Kevin Hayes scores a goal.

With the win, the Flyers continued their climb up the Metro division standings. On a night where the rest of the Metro struggled, the Flyers picked up another 2-points and are now just 1 point behind the Penguins for 2nd.
