Sixers Acquire Two Shooters, But Are They Done Dealing?

Last night, while most of Philadelphia was sleeping, Elton Brand made his first of what could be many trades ahead of the 3pm deadline today.

In a trade with the Golden State Warriors, the Sixers acquired Glenn Robinson III & Alec Burks for three second round draft picks. Acquiring Robinson III & Burks, Brand gave the Sixers some much needed shooting for the bench without giving up any of their best assets.

With the acquisition of Robinson III & Burks, it gives the Sixers some roster flexibility. Both players are upgrades to the shooters already on the Sixers bench. This could lead to the possibility of moving out assets on the current roster. Players like Furkan Korkmaz, Trey Burke, & Zhaire Smith are now all movable with the recent trade.

Which asks the question, are the Sixers done?

It doesn’t appear that they are done improving the roster just yet. With no players going back to the Warriors in the deal, the Sixers will have to get rid of two players to fit Robinson III & Burks on the roster.

According to ESPNs Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixers are still very active looking for more additions to the roster.

Another Sixers trade has more fuel with the team recalling Marial Shayok from the Delaware Blue Coats.  With at least 5 role-playing guards already behind Ben Simmons, Shayok’s recall may be signaling a couple of those guards could be on the trade block and be on their way out of Philadelphia.

Shayok’s recall could also be for coverage for tonights game in Milwaukee. If another deal is made, the Sixers may have been on the forefront to make sure they had an extra body for tonights game. With the deal still not officially announced, don’t expect new shooters Robinson III & Burks to be in a Sixers uniform til at least Sunday.

The Sixers are better from Elton Brand’s first trade. But, work still needs to be done. Work that has many Sixers fans calling for a trade to send out veteran PF/C Al Horford, who is in his first season in Philadelphia.

It doesn’t appear the Sixers have any interest in trading Horford after signing him to a 4-year deal over the summer. But, with cap space needed to bring in another high-priced piece and Simmons-Harris-Embiid not going anywhere, Horford may be the odd man out.

Time will tell with the NBA trade deadline at 3pm today. But, one thing is for sure, at least two players currently on the roster will not be on the roster after the 3pm deadline. Stay tuned…
