Flyers Double Up The Avalanche Behind Two Goals From Farabee & Hayes

The Flyers snuck out of Pittsburgh with a point after a 3rd period goal by Scott Laughton. Tonight, the Flyers faced the well-rested Colorado Avalanche, who were playing their 1st game since the all-star break & mini bye.

After Colorado controlling most of the 1st period, the Flyers would be the first to strike. Matt Niskanen would fire a shot into traffic that hit Colorado’s Landeskog stick & Graves skate to beat Grubauer. 1-0 Philadelphia.

Kevin Hayes would “not suck and not be the worst player in the league” tonight. Hayes would redirect a perfect passing display by Konecny to JVR and JVR to Hayes for the goal with just 4.5 seconds left in the 1st period. 2-0 Philadelphia after the 1st period.

Colorado would get on the board twice in the 2nd. Valeri Nichushkin would be hit by a point shot to beat Lyon for the first time. Mikko Rantanen was left wide open on the powerplay to beat Lyon for the second time.

Sandwiched between the goals, Sean Couturier would find Joel Farabee with a tape to tape pass for the tap-in to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead. Farabee outmuscled Cale Makar in a footrace to the net, capitalizing on a perfect pass by Couturier.

Farabee would get his second on the night off a great defensive play by Sean Couturier. After blocking a clearance, Couturier found Farabee with a wide open net for the goal.

After a Colorado goal to make it 4-3, Kevin Hayes would get his second after another staple penalty kill moment. Hayes would block a cross-ice pass and head up ice on a 2v1 with Claude Giroux. Hayes would beat Grubauer to make it 5-3 Flyers.

Scott Laughton would get the empty net goal to make it 6-3 after a HUGE save by Alex Lyon, who deserved an assist on the goal.

Alex Lyon stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced to earn his first win since March 22, 2018 against the Rangers.

Loose Pucks…

Scheduling yet again showed its might against the Flyers once again tonight. Colorado entered not having played in 12 days and will not play again til Tuesday. But, the Flyers were in game #2 of 3 games in 4 day stretch after their all-star & mini bye break.

Joel Farabee has been on fire since ending his 15-game goalless drought. In the 5-games since ending the drought, Farabee has 4G & 2A, including 2 tonight against Colorado.

Kevin Hayes continues to assert himself for why the Flyers signed him for $7.14M a year for the next 7 years. Another penalty kill spectacular tonight by Hayes. Who capped off the night with a short-handed goal with 3:31 left to seal the win.

The Flyers should be with star goaltender, Carter Hart, the next time they take the ice at the Wells Fargo Center. With a 3-day break after the finale of 3-games in 4 days on Monday, Hart is hopeful he can start in his return on Thursday.
