The Internet Will Solve Just About Anything & IT Found Gritty…

In what has been a wild past 48 hours, the Philadelphia Flyers mascot, Gritty, has been under fire for a claim that he injured a 13-year-old boy at a photo shoot in November.

According to Chris Greenwell of Newark DE, after taking their picture with Gritty, his son, Brandon, playfully tapped Gritty on the head three times. Then, as they walked away, Greenwell’s claim is Gritty got up out of his chair, dove at his son, and punched him in the back.

Greenwell says at first he thought it was playful because of Gritty’s usual antics at games and in public. But, after his son said he was experiencing back pain a week later, Greenwell addressed his issue to the team.

However, his son’s injury wasn’t the first complaint. His first complaint was about a “lousy” picture with Gritty. Which, “being so lousy”, before the news broke of this story, was Greenwell’s Facebook profile picture. Since then, the picture has been removed. But, then his second complaint was about his son’s injury.

From the beginning, Greenwell claims all he wanted was an apology and an investigation be done to figure out why it happened. But, after going back and forth for a month, Greenwell contacted the Philadelphia Police and asked if they would investigate the claim for a possible assault on his son. Greenwell contacted police because he didn’t feel satisfied with the Flyers response.

“Have investigated your allegations and cannot identify anyone who witnessed the incident as you described it. It is unfortunate that you and your son had a bad experience at our Gritty Photo Event. Therefore, we are offering an opportunity to discuss a creative way to restore your son’s love of the Philadelphia Flyers.”

If all Greenwell wanted was an apology and investigation, both of which seem to have been done in the Flyers response, why is Philadelphia Police now involved? This is where the story becomes a little muddy.

After the Flyers said that they found no evidence of this claim, they still offered special perks to make up for this claim of a bad experience. The Flyers offered for Greenwell and his son Brandon to sit on the bench during warmups at an upcoming game.

However, Greenwell didn’t think that was enough and suggested the Flyers show his son on the giant scoreboard or let him into the locker room to meet players and get autographs. An ask that has caused the internet to do their own investigation and ruling on the case.

This is when the internet found the profile picture of Greenwell & his son with Gritty. A post from this past weekend of Greenwell & his son at the Flyers season ticket holder event. Which came at a shock after Greenwell said he will not renew his tickets. And, the internet raising the question, with the popularity of Gritty and Greenwell stating they waited in line for over an hour, that no-one at the event had video or even saw it except himself and his son.

No personal judgment here and everyone is entitled to their own opinion no matter what comes from this. But, from reading posts on the internet, it truly looks like the internet has come to its own conclusion and found Gritty NO GUILTY.
