Flyers Win On An Emotional Night In Support Of Teammate Oskar Lindblom
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-1 Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. On, his teammates put out one of their best efforts of the season.
Travis Konecny’s return and presence started the Flyers 4 goal night. David Kase got one on his brother and scored his first NHL against his brother’s team. Jake Voracek ended a 10-game goal-less streak. All were huge boosts for the Flyers after losing 3 straight and 4 of their last 5 games.
The biggest boost came from the Flyers new youngsters. Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Mikhail Vorobyev, & goal scorer David Kase, all had their best games in the NHL to date.
Carter Hart stopped 40 of the 41 shots he faced to earn his 11 win of the season, his 8th coming at the Wells Fargo Center.
Flyers vs Ducks in 10 points…
Welcome back Travis Konecny. The Flyers scored a total of 5 goals during his absence. Tonight, they erupted for 4 goals and Konency started it all on a great feed to Giroux.
In-front of his parents, David Kase scored his first career NHL goal against his brother Ondrej & the Anaheim Ducks. The play was setup up by a beautiful cross ice pass by Morgan Frost to Travis Sanheim. Whose shot Kase deflected home for the goal.
Carter Hart continues to impress on home ice, winning his 5th straight home start. Since Hart’s last regulation loss at home, the Flyers are 7-0-2 with the win tonight. Hart now supports an 8-1-2 record with 1.48GAA & .948% at home this season.
Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux both scored a goal and added an assist. Tonight, they were reunited with their line-mate from last season, Travis Konecny. The three carried the Flyers last season. Tonight, they picked up right were they left off last season.
David Kase knew exactly who to pick on after the game. Kase went on to say “Thats one for the little brothers everywhere”, about scoring his 1st career goal against his older brother. Ohhh, just a good sibling rivalry.
How can you have a positive off the ice? Well, Phil Myers, who was a healthy scratch, took the time to learn from two former NHL defenseman during the game. Myers sat with Kjell Samuelsson & Nick Schultz for most of the game and had some pretty visual conversations during the intermissions. Good learning lesson for Myers.
While the power-play continues to struggle, the penalty kill continues to shine. After being amongst the bottom half for the past few seasons, the Flyers penalty kill continues to kill penalty after penalty off. They were beaten tonight, but it took a double deflection to beat them.
Tonight was game 1 of rookie Joel Farabee’s 3-game suspension. A suspension that was very harsh for a first time offender and a player who has played all of 27 career NHL games. The length of his suspension was questioned by head coach Alain Vigneault… “TK’s hit just a few days before was 1.04. There’s .3-something seconds difference. One is nothing. One is a three-game suspension to a young man who has no history [of disciplinary issues].”
The NHL community is one. There may be 32 teams, but when one player is fighting, everyone is fighting with them. Oskar Lindblom’s diagnosis of ewing sarcoma has been felt around the league. All 32 teams have voiced their support for Oskar’s fight. In support with the NHL, the Flyers wore the purple hockey fights cancer jerseys for a second time to be auctioned to with all proceeds going to ewing sarcoma research.
Another suspension coming? Nicolas Aube-Kubel had a picture perfect hit in the 1st period on Ducks Jacob Larsson. Not so much can be said for his second big hit of the night. Aube-Kubel was called for kneeing that left Ducks Troy Terry done on the ice and having to be helped to the locker room. We will see what the NHL Department of Player Safety has to say about that.
