Battered But Not Beaten, Flyers Win Another Game On Home Ice

The Flyers bounced back after a 3-1 loss Thursday with a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators Saturday afternoon at the Wells Fargo Center.

Flyers 3rd line, Laughton-Hayes-Farabee, played a huge part in the victory. Setting up the two third period goals the Flyers needed to win. Including the game winner just 11 seconds after the Senators tied the game at 3-3.

Carter Hart stopped 27 of the 30 Senators shots he faced to earn his 10 win of the season and improve to 7-1-2 at the Wells Fargo Center.

With the win, the Flyers ended a grueling 5 games in a 8-day stretch 4-1.

Flyers vs Senators in 10 points…

Morgan Frost got some frustration off his back today. Assisting on the Flyers first goal. Frost had been pointless in his last 7 games. Even during his frustration, Frost has looked good and head coach Alain Vigneault has kept confidence in him by keeping in on the first line.

Tom Chmielewski’s partner, Dan O’Halloran, is normally the referee who never has his best games when the Flyers play. But, today, Chmielewski was the one who struggled and was just AWFUL. Two calls were especially terrible. A no call on a blindside late night on Travis Konecny, which he watched happened, and a horrible hooking call on Kevin Hayes, which he couldn’t even see.

Travis Konecny fell victim to a blindside hit in center ice from Ottawa Senator Mark Borowiecki late in the 1st period. No penalty was called on the play and Konecny would not return. Assumption is Konecny went into concussion protocol. Injury update was not available post-game.

Jake Voracek and Joel Farabee both were apart of fights today. The two fights were just the Flyers fourth and fifth of the season and the first season November 1st when Matt Niskanen dropped the gloves.

Ivan Provorov continues to proves he belongs among the elite defensemen in the NHL. Provorov scored to 7th goal of the season to fuel the Flyers 3rd period victory. His 7 goals are tied for second with defensemen who play 24+mins a night.

Flyers power-play struggles continued and it costed them a goal today. A miscommunication between Shayne Gostisbehere and Carter Hart led to an Anthony Duclair wrap-around for the short-handed goal. The power-play is now 4 for their last 35 after going 0 for 2 today.

It’s becoming very obvious what the Flyers lost when Scott Laughton got injured. Since his return, the 3rd line, Laughton-Hayes-Farabee, has been red hot. Today was no different, especially for Laughton who was apart of both 3rd period goals for the Flyers. Including scoring the game winner.

Home cooking for Carter Hart must be nice. With the 4-3 win today, Hart won his 7th home game already this season, stopping 27 of the 30 shots he faced. For the season, Hart is 7-1-2 with 1.48GAA & .944% when starting at the Wells Fargo Center.

Bouncing right back is something the Flyers have struggled with for a long time. But, after a tough, physical loss Thursday, the team showed no remembrance of that loss. Jumping on the Senators early and scoring just 1:45 into the game.

On the other side of the puck, Senators Brady Tkachuk was having a very good game. Tkachuk was noticeable all day for all the right reasons until he lost his cool. With 25 seconds left and his team needing a goal, Tkachuk cross-checked Flyers Laughton down and proceeded to jump him. Throwing away any good that Tkachuk was having today. Something the 2nd year player has done before.

Result : Flyers 4 – Senators 3 , WIN

Record : 17 – 8 – 5

Next Game : 12/11 Colorado Avalanche, 9:30PM NBCSports Philadelphia
