Eagles Forgot Their Sunscreen & Got Burnt In Miami
Ahhhh, Miami. White sand beaches, crystal clear blue water, and a disgusting end to a horrible Eagles season. A game the Eagles had to win, not to mention should have won, ended in the loss column.
The Miami Dolphins burnt a no-fight Eagles team 37-31 Sunday. An Eagles team that looks like they have packed up and have already started their off season.
Leading 21-14 exiting halftime, the Eagles recovered a surprise onside kick attempt by the Dolphins. With great field position, Carson Wentz and the Eagles offseason made quick work and scored a touchdown to go up 28-14.
That 28-14 scoreline would be the last lead the Eagles would have the rest of the game. Being outscored 23-3 & out-gained 260-108 the rest of the game.
Observations from the game…
Defensive Letdown
The game couldn’t have started any better for the Eagles. Ronald Darby would pick-off Ryan Fitzpatrick on the 1st play of the game. But, that would be the only play the defense made on the day.
After getting a turnover on the first drive, the Eagles defense would only hold the Dolphins offense off the board only 2 more times on their final 8 drives.
Last season, Fitzpatrick led a Tampa Bay Bucs team to a win over the Eagles to the dismay of a horrible defensive showing. Today, Fitzpatrick would do the same.
Same Old Stuff, Different Week
Doug Pederson has said week after week that the playing calling is on him and needs to be better. But, just like the previous two weeks, the Eagles run has disappeared as the game goes on. For some reason, it seems Doug forgets that running the ball is how you open up your passing game.
Today, the Eagles offense has its worst difference in playing calling over the past three weeks. Against Miami, the Eagles threw the ball 50 times to only 19 runs. 19 runs that had an average of 4.8.
Until Doug balances the offense, which has led to Eagles success, the offense will not be the same.
Another Trick Play TD
The Patriots beat the Eagles with a Edelman trick play TD pass. Seattle beat the Eagles with a flea-flicker trick play for a TD. Today, the Dolphins beat the Eagles with a fake field goal trick play for a TD.
The last 3 Eagles losses have come at the hands of coaches calling plays that have alot of risk, but a ton of reward. A style of play calling that lead to the Eagles winning the super bowl. Unfortunately, Doug Pederson has lost that same “no-f*cks-given” playing calling style and it has shown.
Teams have found a way to beat a scared Eagles team and it shows with three straight losses all with trick plays going for TDs.
Season Over?
The Eagles have about an .000000000000001% chance of winning the division, which means the season is pretty much over. Falling to 5-7, the Eagles need to run the table the rest of the season to have any chance.
Running the table would mean the Eagles have to beat the Giants twice, the Cowboys, and the Redskins.
With a no fight Eagles team today that could have controlled their own destiny with a win, little faith is left in the Eagles winning out and needing the Cowboys to lose again this season to make the playoffs.
