Recipe For Disaster Or Just A Typical Eagles Win?

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. That motto is something the Eagles have used for some time to pull out wins in tough situations. Sounds pretty much like the situation the Eagles are in again on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks after the Birds 17-10 loss last week.

Earlier this season, after two bad losses to the Falcons & Lions and some early injuries, the Eagles went into Lambeau Field and beat the undefeated Packers. A win where their backs were against the wall and the season pretty much on the line. But, will the Eagles actually have all hands on deck for Sunday’s matchup? From the looks of practice Friday, the Eagles will be a little short-handed.

Jordan Howard is expected to miss his 2nd straight game Sunday. Howard, who took a stinger at the end of the Bears game, has still not been cleared for contact as of the conclusion of Friday’s practice. With Howard potentially out again, the Eagles run game will have to do a better job than their performance against the Patriots to balance out the offense. Well, if they’re actually given the opportunity to do so (looking at you Doug).

Lane Johnson is doubtful for Sunday’s game after suffering a concussion against the Patriots. When Johnson left the game last Sunday, the Eagles offense left with him. After Johnson’s exit, the Eagles offense disappeared and only gained 137 total yards over the final three quarters. Johnson’s absence will be even more apparent this week with Seahawks all-pro pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

Alshon Jeffery is expected to play after missing last week due to a nagging calf/ankle injury. With Alshon back, the Eagles offense will get back their #1 physical, pass catching receiver. But, Jeffery isn’t expected to be 100% healthy when he returns Sunday. Which may limit his snaps and abilities.

Nelson Agholor will play but is also not 100% healthy. Agholor missed practice on Wednesday & Thursday due to a knee injury that he re-aggravated Sunday against the Patriots.

The Eagles defense will get another key player back Sunday. Jalen Mills has been a boost to the defense since his return and the Eagles hope Nigel Bradham will have the same impact Sunday. Bradham will return after missing the last 6 weeks due to injury. With the emergence 3rd year pro Nate Gerry & rookie TJ Edwards, Bradham’s return will give DC Jim Schwartz even more options of playing calling.

Sunday will be a big test for the Eagles with all the injuries. At some points on Sunday, the Eagles offense could feature Hollins, Arcega-Whiteside, & Scott on the field at the same time. Seattle will game plan to take the Eagles powerful TE duo, Ertz & Goedert, out of the game. Therefore, the Eagles young WRs & RBs will have to make the plays to fuel the offense Sunday.

This game, from the Eagles standpoint, is setting up to be a disaster and the possible end to their season. Not to mention the Eagles have lost 4 straight to Seattle, including 4 in a row at home as well.

If the Eagles lose to the Seahawks Sunday, the season will still have some hope if the Cowboys lose in New England Sunday as well. The division would then be the only route for the Eagles playoffs hopes.  You can read about that scenario here…

With all the injuries, their backs against the wall, & a tough Seahawks team, is Sunday a recipe disaster or just another typical Eagles win when they shouldn’t win? Hopefully it is just another typical Eagles win when they shouldn’t.
