The Eagles Went From Near Implosion to Full Fan Confidence in the Span of a Week

Driving to and home from work this week, I started to notice something strange happening when I would listen to either WIP or the Fanatic.  The callers would call in and start to talk about the upcoming game this Sunday against the Bears….and they are all confident in an Eagles win.

Like, very confident.  As in this game should be a no doubt Eagles win.

Excuse me?

Now don’t get me wrong, I believe the Eagles should win on Sunday. That’s not what I am confused about.  What I am confused about is the level of confidence the fans seem to have in this team going into the game. This time last week, we were on the verge of an Orlando Scandrick infused implosion.

We don’t want to guarantee anything with this team before it happens. Let’s take baby steps.

The Bears still have a very formidable defense, and Khalil Mack could be lined up against Andre Dillard which could mean a very long afternoon for Carson Wentz.  They still have Leonard Floyd, Roquan Smith, Eddie Jackson and more lined up against an offense that has looked lacking in key areas, which is not something that was foreseen by this fanbase.

Let’s not overlook the Bears offense either.  Yes, they are struggling mightily right now.  Mitch Trubisky has been shit on by every analyst and fan in the Midwest. But, let’s not forget, against this same defense he is playing Sunday, he threw for 300 yards and a touchdown and put them in position for the game winning field goal before the infamous double doink happened.  My fear is this: Trubisky isn’t playing for a win on Sunday, he is playing for his job. If he came out with another performance like the playoff game a year ago, it should shock no one. There are must wins and then there are “I need this so people don’t think I’m a bust and compare me to Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson for the rest of my life” wins.

Does Trubisky have a career game like Kirk Cousins did?  Chances aren’t high.  I just need the Eagles defense to treat him like a quarterback teetering on bust potential. Just once, it would great to REALLY have confidence in them.

This is not going to be easy and I do not understand fans expecting an easy win.  The Eagles have not proven to us this year that they deserve that confidence in them from the fans.  A win in Buffalo shouldn’t change that.  There are 8 games left in the Eagles season, and they need to earn my trust and confidence so I can expect them to easily win games against formidable opponents.

Until then, my mentality for every game for this team is that it is going to be a dog fight.

So Eagles, prove me wrong.
