Eagles Were Smart Not to Buy From Stupid Teams at Deadline

Trade deadline came and went and it was boring as hell. As someone who never watched Game of Thrones, this is what Twitter was like during the final season of that show. All of that hype leading up, then absolute let down to follow.

But for the Eagles, they were probably smart not to make any splashes given the ridiculous asking prices of certain teams. A lot of lowly teams had attractive veterans in play but there was one problem: bad teams are bad teams for a reason. Bad teams not dealing their players for picks because they overvalue said player, is exactly why they are a bad team in the first place. You can’t fix stupid.

Here are some examples:

AJ Green: On the day the Bengals benched their starting quarterback and catapulted the Dolphins in best odds for the #1 overall pick, the Bengals decided they need not trade their free agent to be, star wide receiver. Who is not playing for them right now anyway. Nor will he likely ever play for the team again. The Bengals, in a full rebuild (or tank) will receive no draft compensation for one of those most talented receivers in the league. The Eagles attempting to make a trade with the Bengals for Green, is the picture of the man yelling at a brick wall.

Chris Harris: Similar situation here with Harris. The Broncos are losers and they are losers without their starting quarterback. They already snagged two, middle round draft picks for Emmanuel Sanders. Harris, a 30 year old free agent to be should have been had for a similar haul to Sanders. Instead, the price tag was too high for teams. It’s ridiculous for the Broncos to assume they could have gotten a second round pick or even a FIRST in exchange for a possible rental at corner.

Robby Anderson: Rumor was the Jets wanted a second rounder for Robby. He had his name in trade rumors last season. He had his name this past offseason. Now, Anderson has his name in trade rumors this season. When your name is constantly in rumors, guess what your trade value is? Acceptable answers are “jack shit” or “not a second round pick”

Don’t be mad the Eagles couldn’t pull off a deal at the deadline. They shouldn’t stoop down to stupid just for the sake of getting something done. Be mad they put themselves in a position that deals at the deadline were a necessity in the first place.
