Eagles Are Very Active & Looking To Add Through Trade Market
After an impressive 31-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills, the Philadelphia Eagles season is back on track. They finally have some momentum going into their favor going into a huge matchup against the Chicago Bears at the Linc Sunday. But, will the Birds have some new faces with them by then?
On NBC Sunday Night Football pregame show, Mike Florio had some interesting comments about the Eagles and their direction into the trade deadline on Tuesday. Florio said that the Eagles are becoming a hot name in the trade market and are looking to do “something fun”.
What does “something fun” mean? Could the Eagles be looking at old faces? Another weapon or two for Carson Wentz? Maybe a defensive specialist for Jim Schwartz? It could be AJ Green or some practice squad scrub, who knows. Here are a couple possibilities that fit the Eagles.
Robby Anderson NYJ – WR
Robby Anderson would bring an over the top threat to the Eagles. That dynamic has stalled with the Eagles offense somewhat due to the injured DeSean Jackson. Since Jackson went down with injury, the Eagles offense has been very hit or miss. With no threat of the deep ball, opposing defenses have been stacking the box and forcing the Eagles physical WRs to make plays. There just hasn’t been much explosiveness since Desean’s Week 2 injury. But, adding a guy like Anderson, the Eagles would be able to stretch the defense out more. Opening up the middle of the field for more crossing routes and possible back-door run plays for bigger gains. Having the possibility of two deep threats will allow the Eagles offense more flexibility with playing calling and possible injuries.
Value : 3rd round pick
DeVante Parker MIA – WR
DeVante Parker needs a change of scenery and could find a good home with the Eagles. Once seen as the next great NFL WR, Parker has been pretty average in Miami. The former 14th overall pick in 2015 has dealt with quarterback struggles throughout his career in Miami. But, for his career, Parker has a very impressive 13.8 yards-per-catch average. Including a very good start to this season, 15.8 yards, with an 0-6 Miami team. Parker has the speed to spread the field over the top but also has good route running skills to split the middle of the field. Parker would bring the same value to the Eagles as Anderson but at a much cheaper price.
Value : 5th round pick
Brandon Wilson CIN – DB / KR
If the Eagles are looking for “something fun”, then Bengals special teams specialist, Brandon Wilson, is a good fit. Wilson, a former 6th round pick in 2017, was a two-way star in college at Houston. Since making his debut in the NFL, Wilson has been a special teams star on the return side. With Miles Sanders possibly injured and the Eagles return unit thin, Wilson could be a game-changer for the Birds. Wilson’s 4.40 speed could add a dynamic to not only the return game, but a trick play or two on offense. Shining more on the offensive side at Houston, Wilson still has a knack for the offensive side of the ball in the NFL.
Value : Conditional 6th round pick
Soloman Thomas SF – DL
The Eagles are without three of the four DTs they started the season with. Two of which will miss the rest of the season due to injuries. One team with a stockpile of DL is the 49ers. Just ask former #3 overall pick from 2017, Soloman Thomas, who has lost out to a numbers game. Behind the likes of Ford, Buckner, Armstead, & Bosa, Soloman Thomas is struggling to get on the field. Nothing against Thomas, the 49ers have built an impressive DL through stockpiling players and the numbers aren’t in Thomas’s favor. With no movement up in site, Thomas could be able for the right price. Adding Thomas to the Eagles DL would give DC Jim Schwartz the ability to run his favorite package, NASCAR, more often. Thomas would become the Eagles 3rd DE on the spot. His rookie deal salary will also help with the cap over the next two seasons.
Value : 3rd round pick
Patrick Peterson ARZ – DB
Another season and another Eagles link to DB Patrick Peterson. The 9-year pro never seems to have his name out of the NFL rumor mill. Nothing against Peterson, the Cardinals just haven’t been good enough around the all-pro CB to put water on those rumors. But, the Eagles interest is at a peak with Peterson because of their mediocre at best CB performance this season. Adding Peterson gives them a shutdown corner and strengthens the unit by addition. Peterson would immediately become the Birds #1 corner, strengthening the unit that has been much-maligned this season. Peterson would also help the return game with the absence of Sproles. Miles Sanders has taken over the kick return duties, but Peterson returns punts for the Cardinals and would be able to do the same with the Eagles.
Value : 1st round pick + CB (Jones or Douglas)
