Bryce Harper Is So Philly His Presence On The Nationals Stalled A Dynasty

The Washington Nationals are going to the World Series.

That’s it, that’s the article.

It’s the franchise’s first ever World Series appearance, exercising the demons of Blue Monday in 1981 and the Players Strike of 1994 as the Montreal Expos, and the four division titles with four first round exits as the Washington Nationals.

It’s the first World Series to be played in the Nation’s Capital since the year the Eagles were born and they’ll have a chance to win their first title since 1924.

There is a lot to think about for Phillies fans right now.

Just when they thought they finally had reigns of the NL East back by taking the face of their division rival, said rival exercised decades of postseason demons by winning big playoff games in the clutch.

John Middleton thought he neutered the Nats identity by taking their most iconic player in their short history. Instead DC has moved on to greener pastures as if Harper never existed.

We can’t chant to Nats fans anymore the words “We Got Bryce!”

Because Nats fans just have to respond with “Keep him.”

Hopefully this National run in 2019 goes down similarly to the Mets run to the Fall Classic in 2015 which feels like it never happened now.

Spin-zone: Harper has been a Philly guy much longer than we thought because as a member of the Washington Nationals from 2012-2018, his presence somehow created a dark cloud which held them back from advancing to the playoffs. Maybe this whole time Jayson Werth went to Washington via free agency in 2011 to sabotage the up-and-coming talent in DC.

While it makes sense for him to join the team he’s been helping via free agency, it may go down as a mistake if the Nats go on to become the dynasty they were supposed to be with him while he rots in Philly purgatory.

I wonder if Bryce will also recruit one of his former Nationals managers like Dusty Baker, Davey Johnson or Matt Williams to help the Phils transform into a lamer version of the early 2010s Nats.

So, now I think it’s time we listen to one of the great fight songs in history, take it away PFT Commentor:
