Gabe Kapler OUT As Phillies Manager, Scapegoated By Incompetent Front Office
Gabe Kapler has been in managerial purgatory for a little over a week since the Phillies lackluster season ended. It took quite some time, but the Phillies front office has officially come to their decision: Kapler is out.
Kapler slides safely into the role of scapegoat as his firing masks the gross incompetence exhibited by the General Manager and the rest of the front office. Their inability to draft and develop young talent prohibits the team from growing organically, forcing them into a position where they have to spend “stupid money” to plug holes in their lineup. That role certainly wasn’t in the job description for Gabe.
Gabe Kapler was quirky, he was unique and in the end he just wasn’t the best fit for the city of Philadelphia. It’s not to say he is a bad manager, but maybe just not the best manager for the Phillies at this time. While his firing isn’t shocking, pointing to the move as the solution to the Phillies problem ignores what (and WHO) the Phillies real problem is.
