Eagles Heartbreak On Sunday Felt A lot Like Kansas City in 2017

The loss to the Falcons on Sunday night was one of the toughest losses for the Eagles in recent memory.  Through all the heartbreak and injuries though, there was a little bit of a silver lining.

This game, seemed eerily similar to the Chiefs game two years ago (minus a ton of crippling of injuries).

Both of these games were very sloppy and, for a majority of both games, the Eagles did not play well at all. Not well enough to win, but ended up being a one possession game in the end. Carson was under pressure a lot and took some nasty shots.  He was wild with some of his throws and was inaccurate for long stretches.  It seemed like he was trying to be Superman and do everything himself.

The biggest similarity I see is with Doug.  This is a game where Doug got pass happy again.  We all remember the criticism that was leveed against him after the Kansas City game, where everyone said he threw the ball way too much and didn’t run the ball enough.  It was the exact same Sunday night.

The stats for the Kansas City game were 46 passes to 17 runs, while the stats for the Atlanta game were 43 passes to 21 runs.  How errily similar is that?

Another similarity is how the team responded after the game.  No one made any excuses, no one blamed the injuries and everyone held themselves accountable.  Doug took the blame. Carson took the blame.  Nelson took the blame.  Ertz took the blame.  Everyone promised to be better.  The same thing were said after Kansas City and they did get better.

So the similarities are there: a feel good opening day win against the Redskins followed by a tough loss on the road the following week.  It is set up the same for this team to repeat what they did two years ago and go on a run.

Let’s see if they are up to the challenge. If history repeats itself the way it has been, expect Doug and the Eagles to run the ball down Detroit’s throat all day Sunday.
