In a truly Un-American Effort, the USA Celtics Collapse at FIBA World Cup
Looking at the team USA roster this year, you knew this wasn’t exactly the dream team but you thought they would be able to handle the world teams made up of perennial role players. They had four Celtics players on the roster and Donovan Mitchell, who took time off from arguing whether Ben Simmons is a rookie to play for them. I wasn’t looking forward to them boasting a gold medal but then oh my god..

They can’t buy a win.In international play! Where they are getting lit up by the likes of Patty Mills and Cedi Osman whose best highlights involve standing around in other peoples highlight tapes. They can’t finish any better than 7th so they don’t even have a chance at the top 5. You round up for anything over 5 so this team basically came in 10th place, and being a bubble top 10 at a sport we historically dominate is not at all the patriotic display you want to see. Borderline treasonous.
The big takeaway from all this is that the Sixers should be a lock to win the east this year. Team USA was made up of a who’s who in the east from Myles Turner, Khris Middleton and half the Celtics roster it felt like. It looks like a lot of those guys have plateaued. Finally Jason Tatum has become the 13 ppg scorer we all knew he could be. The conference is looking a lot thinner this year while Sixers have only bulked up on depth and kept most of their star power from last year. The red white and blue colors did not do well internationally, but those same colors should be in the NBA finals this upcoming season.
Also Jerry Colangelo, burner Brian’s father, was staffing director for team USA. Just a little icing on the cake.
