Philly Word Art Officially Unveiled Their Gritty Piece and it is Glorious

The year of Gritty continues and Philly Word Art artist, Dan Duffy, is making sure Gritty’s first year goes out with a bang.

Gritty, who officially turns 1-year-old on September 24th, will now not only be a Philadelphia treasure, but a work of art:

This company just bats 1.000 on iconic, handwritten Philly sports pieces. Whether it was the old-school Philadelphia Eagle two years ago, or the parade scene at the Art Museum a year ago, every piece is a hit. But this new image of the Flyers mascot, unveiled just this week, really took it up a notch.

The image itself is made out of Gritty’s origin story, but that’s not all. Duffy said he took Gritty’s signature, created a font out of it, and then wrote every single word that comprises the image of Gritty out of that font.  All in all, it took around 75 hours to create (which hurts my brain just to type).

When Duffy was asked why he decided to do a Gritty project, he said the decision was a no brainer:

“At this point, Gritty needs no introduction, especially in Philly. He’s ziplined from the top of the Linc, won countless awards and is represented in art all over the city. Plus, it’s my goal to redo every Philly icon in word art – and he’s already cemented himself as one of the greats.  Now i just need to figure out how to get him a copy!”

We really do need to give Gritty a framed version of himself ASAP as possible. I mean, it’s better than giving him a weapon:

If you’d like to purchase one of the Gritty prints you can do so HERE.

Or, if you think this art is fantastic, and you want it to line the walls of your Man Cave, HERE is the home page to Philly Word Art. Go crazy. Just not Gritty streaking at a hockey game crazy.
