Phillies Wear All Black Uniforms to Signify Their Own Funeral
Hello, this is what I tweeted after the Phillies sweep of the Red Sox. I stand here as the dumbest person alive, falling for the Phillies act again:
We’ve said this every week since May…but the Phillies are about to make a run. Ton of momentum after the sweep of Red Sox, going into a series with the lowly Marlins. A run is coming, 23rd time is the charm

They REALLY outdid themselves with this one.
Well after the Phillies blew a 7 run lead and Vince Velasquez was removed, Ben Davis poses the question as Sean Rodriguez took the hill: is this the worst loss of the Phillies season? He said that while he does post-game show duty, the question is pegged a lot. But, after blowing a 7 run lead to the last place Marlins, losing by 8 and giving up 19 runs to the second worst offense in the NL…they’ve finally done it.
They’ve had their absolute worst lost in a season full of gut-wrenching, knife-twisting, absolute WTF losses. They may have finally freed us from believing they are making the playoffs and wasting our time watching them play.
We need to thank the same cast of characters who have come up small time and time again this season for finally putting the nail in the coffin.
Vince Velasquez, who hit two people and gave up a three run home run to cap a 7 run Marlins 3rd inning.
Nick Pivetta, who sucks in the bullpen just as much as he does as a starter, allowed a two-run double to Neil Walker to cap a 5 run 5th inning for the Marlins. But don’t you worry, because only one of the five runs were earned.
Maikel Franco, back from the dead, committed a huge error in that 5th inning to continue the Marlins rally. He would ground into a double-play the following inning.
All of those guys listed should be playing at Lehigh Valley. They’ve played an important role in the Phillies demise instead.
The problem with the Phillies isn’t that they suck, it’s that they’re mediocre. A team that sucks allows you to die peacefully and stop paying attention. You stop having lofty goals and you focus on having a better future.
A mediocre team reels you back in every other night. They look like a playoff team one game, and then a last place team the next. You continually hold out hope that the playoff version of the team you see sometimes is the teams true form. It never happens. You just wait and wait and wait. They never let you just die.
