The Phillies Were an Inferior, Disaster of a Baseball Team Against the Dodgers Last Night
Sometimes as Philly fans, I think we see red too early and too often. We quit on our teams too soon. We focus on the negatives when there are positives. We claim to fight, then give up.
Now is not one of those times. Now, it is completely justified.
Last night against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Phillies we’re a pathetic, downright embarrassing abomination of a baseball team. It looked like the Dodgers scheduled a pre-season scrimmage against Reading.
This is just awful. Phillies down 9-1

What was the worst part? Well choose your fighter:
During that momentum shifting 4th inning, the Dodgers didn’t slug their way to 6 runs with homers. They out-executed and out-hustled the Phillies. The Dodgers were a high IQ baseball team that flat out made the Phils look inferior. A runner on third hustles home to score after a dribbler down the third base line. They bunt for a hit and a run, a play where no one covered first. It was one of two perfectly executed bunts in the inning. They had a double steal, one of home, for a run. They were flawless in each facet of the game. The Phillies were sloppy and looked like they didn’t want to be there.
It was also just another night where a Class AAAA bum we call a starting pitcher had to fight and claw to make it for five innings, giving up 7 runs in the first 5IP. In typical fashion, after the Phillies scored, Zach Eflin couldn’t get a shutdown inning. He instead fumbled the lead and a 1-0 edge turned into a 6-1 deficit. I have no stats to back this up but the Phillies have got to be close to dead last in the league in shutdown innings.
I am amazed that we are still having the hustle to first base conversation. But, there was Maikel Franco, sulking up the first base line in a bases loaded situation. This series should have been treated like a playoff series. Instead, in a bases loaded, one run game…Franco is pouting as he meanders up the first base line during a bad throw. It was a great 10 pitch at bat, and everything after that point was sickening.
Oh, and there was a point where the Phillies didn’t know there were three outs in the inning. Had to throw that in there somewhere.
The Phillies are such a colossal disappointment, I’m ready to camp out in front of the Nova Care Complex because maybe I’ll catch a sliver of a bead of sweat dripping off an Eagle during the conditioning test through a hole in a bush. That’s how ready I am for football and that’s how ready I am to write off the Phillies.
Lastly, this doesn’t really matter at all compared to the Phillies actually winning games. But, I’m watching Dave Portnoy’s video of Bryce Harper bat and I can hear Dodgers fans chanting “overrated!”. The king of Boston sports fans showed up to watch one of our guys and we got our stadium taken over, there’s no coming back from that. And you know what? I can’t really blame our fans. Who would spend money and sacrifice time on a weekday to watch what we witnessed last night?
Disgraceful.
