I got out of my car to pump gas today, got back in the car and all this happened. As the whole day seemed to be, well for everyone but the Knicks.
Let’s start with Jimmy so I can unleash on this guy. I believe the rumor that the Sixers were willing to offer the lucrative fifth year/extra money to him, because every rumor has seemed to be true. If it is, wow what a jackass. Imagine being a grown man who threw a temper tantrum to get traded from his team to a contender. Only to leave the contender (who’d pay him max money) to go back to a irrelevant team.
My only issue with the Butler move: we traded two valuable role players (Saric, Covington) to get Butler. Then we do not sign Butler to a max deal. We then trade Butler, after trading for him, and only get one valuable role player (Josh Richardson) in return. That math doesn’t add up, it makes the Jimmy Butler experiment a failure.
For who we actually are spending money on, Al Horford is just hilarious. It will take awhile to scrub my soul from hating him. But, I think we’re all on board with this move and understand it. We have had Joel Embiid for 5 years now. Half a decade. Not one of those seasons has he remained healthy or reliable. They had to invest in a backup plan and they got a pretty damn good one.
Tobias Harris is back! In typical Philly sports fan fashion (not in a bad way), we were way more excited about Mike Scott being back then Tobias. I am just unbelievably happy for all the people who got Mike Scott Hive tattoos.
It seems like a millennium ago when Woj and Shams unloaded that 6pm clip on us, but JJ Redick was part of that. To the Pelicans. That is a guy who knows how to secure the bag. The Sixers paid him $12 million last year and would’ve likely needed him to take a paycut. Instead he gets a pay raise. I will miss him but what can ya do?
In conclusion, if you think the booing was an issue at Sixers games this past year, I encourage you to watch or attend the first Miami Heat game at the Wells Fargo Center this year. Also, it now seems (this is speculation) the Sixers knew Jimmy Butler was not going to work out…and that’s why they made the Tobias Harris trade and gave up so much. It’s the dawn of a new era (again).
*Exhales* What a fucking day.
