Here’s An Open Practice Alternative Plan for the PR Nightmare the Eagles Created
By now, you’ve all seen the news that the Eagles aren’t going the most fan friendly route with training camp this year. There will be only one open practice and it will be $10 a ticket with proceeds going to charity. No word yet on whether the $3.99 processing fee will go to charity as well.
Very rarely have the Eagles upset the fan base lately but this one has a 99.9% disapproval rating. It’s hard to get everyone to agree on something these days but everyone agrees this sucks.
Here’s what the Eagles SHOULD’VE done:
• One practice that was $10 to the public, money goes to charity (like they intend to do). Deem it #EaglesCharityNight
• Have two open/free practices for the public. One on weekday, one on weekend (Fan Appreciation Day & Military Appreciation Day)
More practices, more free opportunities for various groups. Flexible for work schedules (day/night, weekend/weekday), and keeps the charity involvement.
Now, I’m not even a big Lehigh guy. Personally, I loved it as a fan. The bonding moments with your family being THAT close to the action were unmatched. Its literally one of the few events in life worth waking up early for. But for the team, that flat out sucks. You live in a dorm room like a freshman in college instead of a millionaire and you’re in the middle of Bethlehem. Do those dorms even have AC after they do two-a-days in the hot sun?? Having training camp at the Nova Care Complex is fine.
But, going from Lehigh and watching open practices dwindle all the way down to one is pretty discouraging. Tack on the fact your paying $10 (albeit for charity) plus a $3.99 Ticketmaster processing fee and it just feels corporate, not fan friendly.
Expand the open practices, make some of them totally free, give each practice a theme. Turnout for Eagles open practices at The Linc have been incredible so far, why put a stain on it?
