Philadelphia Flyers Acquire Kevin Hayes From The Winnipeg Jets

Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher has wasted no time reshaping the roster for next season. Using an unusual way, Fletcher acquired the “rights” per-say to UFA C Kevin Hayes.

The “rights” of Kevin Hayes are not technically available until after the new NHL season starts. But, Fletcher is betting on the Flyers signing Hayes before he hits free agency on July 1st. One of the main reasons he gave up a 5th round pick in the 2019 NHL draft for Hayes.

Acquiring Hayes now means he is essentially apart of the 2018-19 Flyers and is their free agent.

However, according to sources with knowledge of the situation, Hayes and the Flyers are closing in on a multi-year contract extension in the range of $6M a year.

Check 2nd line center off the Flyers to-do list this offseason. The Flyers are now a very strong 4-deep center team with Giroux available to take late game draws.

Move one of the offseason is complete. Don’t be surprised if more happens over the next week. Fletcher is very active at the moment and the # 11 overall selection is very much in play.
