A team at NBC Sports Philly has put together a short documentary that will debut tonight detailing how the Phillies landed Bryce Harper in free agency. It’s bound to be my favorite behind the scenes look at a guy getting snagged since Zero Dark Thirty detailed how the US Government found and killed Osama Bin Laden.
As you can tell by the teaser featuring Matt Klentak, the possibility of signing Harper dwindled before becoming a reality. After months of hopeful discussions began to be infiltrated by doubt, just like that, Harper was a Phillie.
This documentary will be great because for months we heard rumors from just about anyone who’s ever seen a baseball game. We heard a multitude of destinations that were likely for Harper with many more reasons why he’d be going there. Tonight, we hear from people who were ACTUALLY “in the know” when it came to the free agency discussions with the Phillies slugger and his super agent, Scott Boras.
There is another teaser in which Harper reveals he told his wife that Philly “just feels right”. So, tonight is officially D Day for all the uninformed clowns who said Bryce Harper and star free agents don’t want to play on Philly.
My hope for this documentary is that they put the times/dates in the corner of the screen at the beginning of each scene with serious music playing over sound bytes from people like a documentary about catching the Boston Bombers.
8pm tonight, and hey, it’s better than watching the Sixers refuse to play defense!
