MLB Insider Guarantees Mike Trout Will Be a Phillie
MLB Insider, Jim Bowden, did an interview today discussing the aftermath of the Harper signing and had a ton to say about Mike Trout’s impending free agency as well.
Here’s his sound byte:
"And they are going to sign Trout in two years, by the way. Harper and Trout have texted back and forth throughout this process. Harper reached out to Trout to ask him about Philadelphia. Mike Trout and Harper are going to be on this team in two years"pic.twitter.com/WyxDLNlpzO

As if guaranteeing that Trout will be on this team in two years wasn’t enough, Bowden also said that Harper TEXTED Trout to get the low down on what Philadelphia is like.
This is surreal and also completely hilarious.
I love how Mike Trout has become an ambassador for the city of Philadelphia. He’s like a tour guide for a college trying to sell you on their shitty dormitory food. Except instead of getting a windbreaker with the college logo on it, he gets Eagles season tickets.
I think Mike Trout is more than a pipe dream and didn’t come to fruition because of the Harper signing. But, it also isn’t just because he’s a “Phil-Eagles” fan (great video but I couldn’t find it). Playing in Anaheim, albeit not the smallest market, is not a brand builder. Boston is a brand builder. New York is a brand builder. If he were to go down I-5 South to LA, that’d be a brand builder. Playing in Philly with Harper is a brand builder.
Anaheim? Not a brand builder.
The minute that study came out that suggested Trout was about as famous as Kenneth Faried as far as NBA popularity comparison, he was gone. There’s no way the best player in baseball will spend the rest of his prime on a West Coast team who struggles to make the playoffs yearly.
I’m not sure he will end up on the Phillies, although it makes too much sense for that to happen. But, he’s certainly gone from the Angels.
Do you think Harper will sit with Trout at Eagles games in the end zone or will that make it too obvious?
