In past outdoor games, teams have played through light snow and if you ask Carter Hart, a blizzard. But, Saturday nights game at Lincoln Financial Field is in jeopardy of being played at its originally scheduled time due to rain in the forecast.
Due to impending heavy rain forecasted for Saturday Night, the NHL is expected to make a decision tomorrow at noon on whether or not to move the start time up for the showdown between the Flyers and Penguins. The NHL and NBC are working closely together to figure out the best possible solution for the game and coverage.
The NHL has yet to decide on a definite new start time and is considering multiple different options if needed. If the forecast continues to reflect the projected and possibly gets worse, the NHL is heavily considering moving the start time up to either 1:00pm or 3:00pm on Saturday.
If the NHL doesn’t move the game-time up, Sunday night is another possibility. The heavy rain forecasted for Saturday night is not expected to end until mid-Sunday. Which would make game-time late afternoon on Sunday.
Just a FYI, the Sixers play at 1:00pm on Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center against the Portland Trail Blazers. If game-time is moved up, plan accordingly with traffic and expected 20,000+ crowd for Sixers game.
Will update more when more news becomes available.
