The Markelle Fultz “Era” Is Officially Over
Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice
Yeah, I’d always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life
So, that’s that. As the trade deadline of 3pm approached, the seemingly inevitable happened as Markelle Fultz was traded to the Orlando Magic.
If you read yesterday, it seemed as if the writing was on the wall for Fultz and the Sixers had run out of patience dealing with the former #1 overall pick.
Markelle Fultz is like the British version of The Office. The potential to make it big is there. But in its current location, it may never reach that potential. Given a change of scenery, things could really take off. Here’s hoping Markelle Fultz has 9 strong seasons, just like the American version of The Office.
For the return in the trade, I love Jonathon Simmons. He was an integral part of the latter years of the Duncan/Parker/Ginobli era. The Sixers now have legitimate wing guys off the bench in Simmons and James Ennis, acquired earlier today (feels like 3 years ago the way things have been going in Philly today).
Also, shoutout to Elton Brand for replenishing draft picks with his move today. Getting the 2020 1st round (top 20 protected) pick for Fultz from Orlando that was originally from OKC is ironic yet important. Add a 2nd Round pick to that litter too.
Today, we slowly continue to pry ourselves out of the grasp of the ghost of Bryan Colangelo.
