The Flyers Are Streaking At The Moment
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers won their 4th straight game. Avenging a 7-1 loss earlier in the season to the Jets.
Phil Varone got the Flyers started. Scoring off a setup from recent recall, Mikhail Vorobyev, whose end-line to point pass would leave Christian Folin’s stick and hit Michael Raffl in-front. Leaving the puck in the crease for the easy tap-in.
Travis Konecny would re-deflect an Andrew MacDonald shot from the point with 1:14 remaining in the 2nd to get the game winner. Konecny would then reward his line-mate, James van Riemsdyk, with a tap-in with 3:35 left in the 3rd to put the game away.
Carter Hart stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced to earn the victory. Hart improves to 7-5-1 on the season and 4-0-0 in his last 4 games.
Here are 4 more observations from the Flyers win over the Jets…
Remember, HE IS JUST 20 YEARS OLD
A hesitant but very rewarding move was seen as just an only remaining guy healthy opportunity for the Flyers. However, Carter Hart has capitalized on that opportunity and has now started his hopefully long-term and history making career in the Flyers net.
Hart won his 7th career game tonight, his 4th straight win in as many games. Who knew throwing a 20-year-old into the fire, using that term lightly, would produce this. But, thats the thing. Hart isn’t just a normal old 20-year-old. Hart is a 10-year veteran trapped in a 20-year-olds body.
The stability Carter Hart has brought to the NHL is unthinkable to imagine he is just 20-years-old. Oh wait, Hart is. Just adding more fuel and hope to the Flyers finally, after 20 long years, having a stable goal-tending situation.
Shayne Gostisbehere Leaves Injured
Before the game, Shayne Gostisbehere participated in pregame warmups. However, Gostisbehere would not finish warmups. Gostisbehere would leave warmups early and would not play in the game with a lower-body injury.
It is unknown what happened to cause the injury. With the flurry of warmups, it is hard to focus on one guy. It actually took a few minutes to realize Gostisbehere wasn’t still on the ice for warmups.
An update will be provided on the status of Gostisbehere tomorrow according to the team. If Ghost has to miss time, could this open up a spot for Phil Myers to make his NHL debut? A debut that is well deserved and according to GM Chuck Fletcher will happen when a spot opens up.
This Is The $7M Man The Flyers Paid For
Injuries plagued James van Riemsdyk’s return to the Flyers. After a dismal start in his return to the Flyers, James van Riemsdyk is hot. Some would say, hotter than hot.
Van Riemsdyk scored his 13th goal on the season. His 7th in his last 6 games. Some would say a resurgence. Others would say a new mentality. However you see it. James van Riemsdyk is showing why the Flyers paid him $35million to come back to Philadelphia.
But, reuniting with his former buddy and pal, Claude Giroux, on the Flyers top-line, has van Riemsdyk playing at a high level. Well deserving of the contract the Flyers paid him.
4-In-A-Row
Finally a win streak worth noting. Well, finally a win streak above 3 games. With the Flyers win tonight, the Flyers extended their win streak to 4 games. A season high streak.
But, some would say it is against bad teams. Well, look again. Over the 4 game win streak, the Flyers beat the Wild 7-4, the Bruins 4-3, the Canadiens 5-2, and tonight the Jets 3-1.
However you look at it, whether it’s a sign or a streak of good luck. The Flyers are finally living up to the preseason hype that was surrounding them. Only bad part is it’s game 49 and are no-where near a playoff spot.
