Is This the End of an Era For the Eagles?

If I didn’t lose you at the title, I may just lose in the first paragraph. I’m going to say what is usually never said: I stand with Colin Cowherd.

Cowherd was right about everything, but specifically when he said, “Their owner, their GM, their coach and their quarterback are all A.  When you’re all A going into a season, you’re not going anywhere.”

As long as the A+ regime of Roseman/Pederson/Wentz exists, there will be a successful era of Eagles football. But much like the Patriots since the turn of the century with Belichick and Brady, there can be sub-sections of eras. My gut tells me a sub-section of an era just ended in Philly.

While I very much expect the Eagles to once again be contenders next year, it feels as though many pillars that made us contenders in the first place will be gone. From the body language of Doug Pederson hugging his guys (like Brandon Graham), I feel like he senses it too. Graham, Jason Peters, Darren Sproles, Chris Long, possibly Jason Kelce and of course Nick Foles. It feels like the end of the 7th Fast and Furious movie (very extreme, I’m aware). The cast is sticking together and there will be more successful movies. But, some key guys are taking that last ride Brian O’Conner made when he turned at the fork in the road at the final scene.

I never thought we’d win back to back Super Bowls. And honestly, I thought the Saints would win the SB this whole time. So, really, we’re right where we should’ve been this whole time. And somehow, it hurts more than I ever thought it could.

I think I’m so demoralized because I know we still be on journey’s with this team but they are about to change dramatically. It’s the people that make the journeys. And the Eagles had some of the best damn people to ever put on a jersey in Philly regardless of sport. A lot of those guys and us as fans have been on our last journey together.

This great era of Eagles football is not over. But, our favorite sub-section of the era probably is.
