Sunday’s Rematch Vs The Saints Has Hollywood Written All Over It
Lights, camera, action. It is award season in Hollywood right now. But, Sunday’s rematch with the New Orleans Saints has the making of a Hollywood movie written all over it.
Over the years, there has been some great Hollywood productions about football. But, Friday Night Lights, Gridiron Gang, Little Giants, and The Longshots have a direct comparison to the Eagles vs Saints rematch this Sunday.
What do they all have in common you ask?
These movies are based around the concept of comebacks. In each of those movies, the focus is around one particular team getting destroyed by the more powerful team. However, the movie’s focus then becomes that team coming back in a rematch and defeating that team.
Just like those movies, the Philadelphia Eagles have that exact chance this weekend. In Week 11, the Eagles went to New Orleans and forgot they had to play a football game. The Saints blew out the Eagles 48-7. Now, other factors played a big part in this also. However, the Saints had an agenda and made the Eagles look like a pee-wee football team.
The game hitting its lowest in the 4th quarter when the Saints went for a 4th and 7 leading by 31 points. On the play, Saints running back, Alvin Kamara, caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees. This led to the famous flipping of the bird by Malcolm Jenkins towards Saints head coach Sean Payton.
But, that may have been the turning point for the Eagles season. Sitting at 4-6 and needing to win out to make the playoffs, the Eagles would win 5 of their next 6 games to make the playoffs as the 6th seed in the NFC. A trip that has brought a familiar face back in charge and ready to bring his magic again.
Nick Foles has the Eagles on a 4-game win streak with last week’s wildcard win in Chicago. A late 4th-quarter drive gave the Eagles a 16-15 lead. Then, the now famous “double-doink” by former Eagle, Cody Parkey, sealed the Eagles win.
Last week’s win now gives the Eagles the chance at redemption against that same Saints team that embarrassed them in Week 11. This rematch has a Hollywood ending written all over it.
